Man Booker Prize odds – Punters backing Julian Barnes

William Hill say over 50% of all bets struck on the Man Booker Prize have been for 6/4 favourite Julian Barnes.

The winner is announced on Tuesday, and it appears as though punters are expecting Barnes to be named winner with his book “The Sense Of An Ending”.

William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe told Bettingpro.com: “We are bracing ourselves for a Booker battering as literary punters seem to believe Barnes Is a banker bet.

“But if I have learned one thing whilst setting the odds for this event over the last quarter of a century, it is that it is difficult to second guess a judging panel!”

Hills say the second best backed book is Esi Edugyan’s ‘Half Blood Blues’, attracting 15% of the bets placed, while the largest single payout would be £1800 to a client who has staked £200 on 9/1 outsider of the field, Patrick de Witt’s ‘The Sisters Brothers.’

Latest Man Booker Prize odds:

6/4 Julian Barnes, ‘The Sense of an Ending’; 11/4 Carol Birch, ‘Jamrach’s Menagerie’; 7/2 Esi Edugyan, ‘Half Blood Blues’; 11/2 Stephen Kelman, ‘Pigeon English’; 8/1 A D Miller, ‘Snowdrops’; 9/1 Patrick de Witt, ‘The Sisters Brothers’.
