8/11 for smash sit-com to take more than Sex and the City on opening weekend

Stars of the TV series Friends have agreed to make the switch from the small screen to the silver screen for a movie adaptation of the hit programme. Boylesports offer 9/4 that the film will become the highest grossing at the UK Box Office, overtaking Mamma Mia, which currently leads the way with receipts of £69.17m.

Another TV show to make the successful transition to a feature-length film was Sex and the City. This American import was also a favourite among UK audiences and took £8.77m on the opening weekend in the UK. Boylesports offer 8/11 that Friends will beat this figure, while the same odds-on price is quoted for the film to surpass Sex and the City’s US opening weekend takings of $56.8m.

Boylesports entertainment spokesperson Nicola McGeady told Bettingpro this morning “As one of the most popular TV programmes ever we’re sure that Friends will be a Box Office phenomenon on both sides of the pond, and, what with most blokes finding it a bit easier to admit they don’t mind watching Friends than Sex and the City, we reckon it’ll trump it on the opening weekend.”
