Former Boyzone Stars Set to Go Head to Head For Eurovision

Neil Roarty - 3 Feb 2010

Ronan Keating and Mikey Graham both bidding to represent Ireland

Two former members of Boyzone, Ronan Keating and Mikey Graham will go head-t-head in the battle to be this year’s Eurovision Song Contest representative for Ireland.

The pair have each penned a song, which they hope will be chosen by the public on 5th March through The Late Late Show, although Irish bookies PaddyPower believe that they may both be disappointed, making former Eurovision songstress Niamh Kavanagh their favourite to represent the country, at 5/2.

Keating’s entry, which will be performed by Justin Lee Collins is next at 4/1, whilst Graham’s song, which is yet to be announced is available at 6/1.

Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for PaddyPower told bettingpro:

"It’s great to see the likes of Ronan and Mikey throwing their hat in the ring but the choice will come down to the public and with one win already under her belt we reckon Niamh Kavanagh will get the votes.”

Ireland have failed to qualify for the finals at the last two Eurovisions, and Paddy makes it 4/6 that the chosen song will make the final cut in May. Ireland, who hold the record for most Eurovision wins, are 33/1 to win this year’s contest.
