‘The Social Network’ – a movie about Facebook and its founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s life is set for release on October 1st and despite initially being met with a lot of criticism, is now hotly tipped to be an Oscar contender at next years Academy Awards.

Paddy Power make David Fincher’s ‘The Social Network’ just 9/2 to win the Oscar for Best Picture while the odds on Jesse Eisenberg, who plays Zuckerberg, winning the Oscar for Best Actor are just 8/1. Fincher, who directed such movies as The Game, Fight Club and Panic Room is 5/1 to scoop Best Director.
And it’s not just the Academy who are tipped to be impressed with the latest and possibly best fact-based movie of the 21st century. Paddy Power are quoting 4/1 odds that the film will impress movie goers worldwide and sink James Cameron’s Titanic and 18/1 it will out-gross his sci-fi hit Avatar at the box office!
Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power, said: “There’s a lot of talk about ‘The Social Network’ and we expect it be a phenomenal success. There’s already lots of whispers that it’s worthy of an Oscar or two and punters are getting very excited.”
In Ireland alone, The Social Network is being tipped to rake in over €500,000 in its opening weekend at 2/1.
