Bafta odds update

Anna Richardson - 16 Jan 2008

British film Atonement is all set to repeat its success at the Golden Globes last week and walk off with a BAFTA for best film on February 10.

Atonement is priced at evens at Skybet and has home turf advantage at an awards ceremony with a long-standing British bias. Joe Wright's drama will be aiming to beat off competition from No Country For Old Men (11/10), There Will Be Blood (7/1), The Lives of Others (10/1) and American Gangster (18/1).

The World War Two film also looks a shoo-in to win the sister prize of best British film. The other nominees in this category are Control (7/2), This is England (7/2), Bourne Ultimatum (12/1) and Eastern Promises.

British actors Daniel Day Lewis and Julie Christie are favourites to add BAFTA success in the acting categories.

Christie, lead actress in Away From Her, has been installed at 4/9 to walk away with another acting award while Day-Lewis, star of the There Will Be Blood, is heavily fancied at 1/3 for honours in the best lead actor category.

Helen Jacob, entertainment manager at Sky Bet said: “With an incredible 14 nominations, ‘Atonement’ is the standout film at this year’s Baftas. However, the film faces stiff competition from Oscar frontrunner ‘No Country for Old Men’ for the top award of Best Film.”
