Ireland winger Shane Horgan’s sister Sharon Horgan has been nominated for a BAFTA TV Award for Best Comedy Performance with her sitcom Pulling.
Sharon who stars in and co-writes the sitcom with fellow writer Dennis Kelly is 4/1 with
Paddy Power to walk away with the award. She faces stiff competition from Gavin and Stacey’s Rob Brydon at 8/11 and Peep Shows David Mitchell at 3/1.
In other categories, June Brown who plays Dott Cotton in Eastenders is the bookies odds-on favourite at 4/6 to walk away with the Best Actress award. The 82 year old, who is the third longest serving cast member on EastEnders, since first joining the show in 1985, has been nominated for last years episode of the soap in which she spent the entire half hour recording a message for her screen husband Jim Branning who suffered a stroke.
Reprimanded Jonathan Ross is amongst this year’s nominees to win a BAFTA Television award for his controversial chat show. The loud-mouthed host is just 9/2 with Paddy Power to scoop the award despite being taken off the airwaves for twelve weeks last year for his part in the Andrew Sachs radio phone call scandal.
Ross last picked up the award in 2007 but this year he has a bigger mountain to climb. He faces stiff competition from ‘Harry Hill’s TV Burp’ and Ant & Dec’s ‘I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here’ and still needs to do a lot more to win back the publics hearts.
In the Best Continuing Drama category, EastEnders is the 6/4 favourite with Paddy Power to clean up after Coronation Street lost out to Casualty, The Bill and Emmerdale for a BAFTA nod.
Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power said: “Talent clearly runs in the Horgan household and Shane and Sharon’s parents must be extremely proud of their achievements. The competition in her category is very tough but we have our fingers crossed for her and we’re sure being Shane’s sister that the whole of Ireland will be behind her!”
