Colin Firth is now just 1/50 to win an Oscar for his role in The King's Speech
The King's Speech looks set to be crowned on Oscars night according to bookmaker
Ladbrokes.
The bookies have slashed the film's odds repeatedly with it now a 1/6 shot in 'Best Picture' and Firth an a record short 1/50 for 'Best Actor'. On the eve of the ceremony Natalie Portman is another star looking a shoo-in for a gong as she's 1/14 for 'Best Actress'. The short prices are yet to act as a deterrent to punters so far however with several 4 and 5 figure bets registered on the favourites.
The 'Best Director' category appears a coin-toss with David Fincher (The Social Network) in pole position at 1/2. Tom Hooper is 6/4 to pick up yet another award for the King's Speech.
Irrespective of events on the night the bookies will be celebrating as turnover looks set to smash all previous records with a record 6 figure sum wagered so far on the event.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes told Bettingpro:
"It would rank as one of the biggest shocks in betting history if Firth was to miss out on 'Best Actor' and we expect the King's Speech to clean up. We're celebrating either way as turnover has surpassed all previous expectations no doubt down to Firth and his army of fans."
