Blue Bee favourite to land first big title of the year

The Prestige Final at Hall Green is the feature race on the first SKY Sports greyhound show of 2011 and we've asked Victor Chandler odds compiler Stephen Lewis to give us his thoughts on all six contenders.

TRAP ONE Farley Zach (7/1) is a solid Open performer with winning form over four and six bends and the draw has panned out well for him here. He ran well in the heats after a slow exit, only to be collared close home by He Went Whoosh. Previously had run a grand race at Monmore in the final of the Christmas Festival, leading until the fifth bend before being passed by the hot favourite Bower Surfer, and plugging on well for second with some good performers in behind. He's not without a chance if pinging from his plot draw.

TRAP TWO Blue Bee (5/4) is flying at present and this bitch gave a virtuoso performance in the heats, leading at the first bend and powering to a seven lengths-plus victory in easily the fastest time of the three qualifying heats with a 39.75 clock. Prior to this event she had won her last two races and represents the respected handler Mick Dartnall, who has enjoyed plenty of Open race successes with his kennel of talented performers. If clearing the one dog early without hazard, she would be a short price to go on to win as this trip of 645 metres seems well within her staying capabilities.

TRAP THREE Saveourstow Lass (4/1) won well in her heat, coming from off the pace to race past Hovex Brandy and win well. This bitch formerly raced in Ireland as Sawmill Sail but was brought to the UK recently and was a winner at Wimbledon in front of the Sky cameras when staying on strongly. Stamina appears to be her strong suit and win or lose here she looks to be a marathon star in the making and well worth following over the coming months when put over further.

TRAP FOUR Sapphirine (10/1) is an admirable performer who has been running well on the Open circuit for a while now up and down the country. However, although finding trouble in her heat behind Blue Bee, turning  a seven length deficit around will not be easy and as such has to rate as an outside chance only of annexing the spoils.

TRAP FIVE Hovex Brandy (9/1) is another recent recruit to the UK Open race scene from Ireland, where he formed a , reputation as a very decent stayer who likes to be away and gone early and play catch me if you can. He has only had five races since arriving from the Emerald Isle and I think this is a dog that can only go one way now that he has settled in. He won nicely at Hove over 695 metres the time before last, before finding Saveourstowlass too strong on the run-in in the heats when going down by a length and threequarters. If pinging here and going round unscathed he will make them all go.

TRAP SIX He Went Whoosh (10/3) is a regular feature on the staying Open race circuit and has performed with distinction throughout his career. He ran really well in the heats after some crowding at the fourth bend to catch Farley Zach close home, has his pet box in trap six here and operating from this berth must be a major player for honours.
