Raving Black tipped to recoup losses from heat and semi-final defeats

Raving Black has yet to break from the boxes in his best fashion during the Coral Champion Stakes but can hopefully get it right on the big night in tonight’s final.

This £10,000 decider over 575 metres at Romford has a really wide-open look about it following a series of shock results and surprise omissions throughout the opening two rounds.

RAVING BLACK (9.45 T2) has been a beaten favourite in both his races but Seamus Cahill’s charge has battled on bravely to still qualify and is worth sticking with.

This admirable campaigner (7/2 with bet365) has won 35 of his 94 races, including 13 at this track, and clocked a fine 35.45 when overcoming early trouble to beat Adageo in July’s Rose Bowl final.

With plenty of early pace around him in this contest, he may again have to ride a bump or two in the opening exchanges, but his mid-race burst and strong finish can prove decisive.

BODELL CLARE (9.25 T3) has returned to peak form of late and looks the one to be on in the Coral Champions Night Marathon final over 750m.

A recent pillar-to-post winner of a Group 2 contest over 630m at Monmore, she stayed this sharp eight bends with ease when beating Capel Yankee in the heats and is a worthy 4/6 favourite with Coral to follow up.

The Coral Champions Night Standard Final over 400m is an incredibly trappy affair that will almost certainly be settled at the first turn.

FIRE FOR EFFECT (9.10 T6) has fluffed his lines at the start of his last two races and cannot afford to be tardy out of the traps again here.

However, he is a 12-time winner over this course and distance, is perfectly pitched as the sole wide runner here and only has to repeat last month’s 8l win over Deanridge Zeus in 24.04 to secure a 3/1 pay-out from bet365.

Much-hyped youngster RAYVIN GIOVANNI (8.15 T3) will be all the rage in the Coral Champions Night Puppy Final over 400m.

Seamus Cahill’s charge has already landed the Group 1 Wimbledon Puppy Derby in sparkling fashion and clocked an unbelievable 23.67 despite getting an early nudge in his heat here.

Already as short as 25/1 for next year’s Derby, the son of Blackstone Gene and Droopys Sporty is 4/11 with Coral to collect this prize.
