Betfair East Anglian Derby

- 22 Sep 2009

Greyhound racing returns to Sky Sports tonight with the Betfair East Anglian Derby over 462m and Charlie Lister is again the man to beat at Yarmouth.

The legendary Newark handler has Derby second and fourth Fear Zafonic and Farloe Reason competing for yet another big prize from traps two and three.

But it is his new kid on the block Jordansoilutions who has blazed a trail so far in this competition and heads the market after drawing one.

This September 07 son of Brett Lee was third in a puppy final at Nottingham just last month but has taken the step up to the senior ranks in his stride here.

He upset the odds when making all to beat 1/4 kennelmale Fear Zafonic in the second round but proved that was no fluke when again leaving the ante-post favourite trailing in his wake in the semi-finals.

There is a concern that he did miss the break when last donning the red jacket in round one, but 11/4 at William Hill will look big if he does ping the lids once more.

Fear Zafonic is 9/2 at Betfred to come back to top form when it matters most, but bookmakers believe Farloe Reason has a better chance of success after taking the other semi in a time just six spots slower than the favourite.

The oldest runner in the event, who has won 24 of his 48 Open races at seven different tracks, is 10/3 at Sky Bet to make up for his unlucky second-round exit here last year.

Strong-running Gymcrack winner Droopys Bogart is 9/2 with that firm to capitalise on being the only wide runner but may have to do it the hard way if again starting slowly.

Prolific winner Glenroe Ginger, a 5/1 chance at Victor Chandler, has the early speed to turn first from trap five and could be more likely to benefit from any bunching inside.

Derby-winning trainer Mark Wallis took this race with a trap four runner in 2005 but it would be a shock if 33/1 shot Eye Eye Pickle boosted his coffers this time.
