The Wizard has defied a broken ankle in reaching this stage and has proved to be a serious contender for the title.

His first round average of 105 still stands as the highest of the tournament so far and he will be hoping for a repeat performance against The Hammer.

The Aussie thrashed favourite Gary Anderson 5-1 in the last eight and has since been slashed to 9/4 to become world champion.

Stoke ace Hamilton will be bidding to reach his first ever world final and has also played some of his best darts at this year's event.

He has beaten top quality opposition along the way including Vincent van der Voort, Dave Chisnall and Kim Huybrechts.

The Hammer has established himself as one of the most consistent throwers on the circuit and his aggressive and consistent approach makes him a feared opponent.

The bookmakers make Whitlock the favourite to reach the final, he priced at 1/2, with The Hammer offering value at 15/8 with Ladbrokes.

The most notable meeting between the two came in the World Matchplay in July, in a classic game which saw Hamilton come from 15-8 down to prevail 17-5.

Their latest encounter promises to be another close one when it gets underway at 7.45pm on Sunday. It will be streamed live over the best of 11 sets from the Alexandra Palace, London.
