Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor has declared himself fit for his opening Premier League encounter at the O2 Arena in London tonight.

Taylor, who won the tournament four years in a row from its debut in 2005 until 2008, had been suffering with a virus which hampered his preparations.

Taylor, the favourite to win the tournament at 2-5 with Skybet,  will face Australian Simon Whitlock, who in his debut year in the Premier League is available at 12-1.

Taylor and Whitlock are last on and ‘The Power’ is 4-9 with Skybet to take the victory, 4-1 for the match to end in a draw, while Whitlock is available at 7-2.

Taylor said: “It's not been ideal preparation but I'm looking forward to playing now. I'm still not 100 percent, but I'll be giving it everything I've got against Simon.

"He was brilliant at the World Championship and has won a couple of events in Australia this year already, so I know the size of the task - but I really want this title back and the journey starts here."
