PDC World Championship: Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld lead the field

James Smith - 7 Dec 2007

Ladbrokes believe Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld, the ‘big two’ of darts, have a better chance of winning the forthcoming PDC World Championship than the rest of the field combined.

The bookie goes 4/6 that either Taylor or Van Barneveld, who fought out last year’s epic final, will capture the title and 11/10 that it will go to one of the 66 other competitors.

This is despite the fact that neither of the sport’s most illustrious duo has reached the final of the PDC’s last two major ranking events, with James Wade beating Terry Jenkins in the showdown for the World Matchplay and the World Grand Prix crowns.

Ladborkes report that: "Even though it has not been a stellar year for either Taylor or Barney, when it comes to the World Championship they are still very much the men to beat.

"Their motivation will be at maximum levels and while Barney will be determined to retain the title, Taylor will want it back – and The Power has shown in the last couple of months that he is back to his best."
