Taylor opened up the day's play against former world number one Colin Lloyd and the 15-time World Champion made light work of the in-form Essex thrower with a 6-0 whitewash.

The Power ended on a 107 average and his glittering display included a 135 checkout with a 25 and two bullseyes leaving Jaws helpless in averaging 101 and failing to register a leg.

Barneveld kept his part of the bargain with a 6-3 victory over former Lakeside champion Mark Webster in the match that followed, with the popular Dutchman producing a solid display to continue his fine form on the tour.

"The game is won on doubles and they're important as it showed when Mark hit the double 15 at the end, which is hard for him," said Barneveld.

"I was happy with how I scored and I'll go and prepare to play Phil Taylor now in the quarter-finals. Everything has to be right when you play against him but I am excited," he added.

Wes Newton enhanced his reputation as one of the game's most clinical all round players as he thrashed Ireland's Michael Mansell 6-1 with a 103 average.

The Fleetwood ace fired in an 11-darter en route to a comfortable victory, setting up a last eight tie with another form horse in Justin Pipe after the Austrian open winner edged out Co Stompe.

Mervyn King came out on top in the all-Norfolk clash with youngster James Hubbard; the King's superior big stage experience paid off as he took the last two legs for victory with the score poised at 4-4.

He will now face the dependable Dave Chisnall after he ended the hopes of a gritty Terry Jenkins in a last leg decider.

In a high quality battle which saw both average in excess of 100, Chizzy's clinical power scoring proved the difference as he posted scores of 137, 134 and 140 in the final leg, snatching victory on double 16 for a 13-darter.

Simon Whitlock defeated fellow Premier League player Kevin Painter with a terrific 6-2 victory, with the Australian ace registering a near 107 average in a performance which included five 180s.

Standing in the way of The Wizard and a place in the Semi-Finals is Belgium’s rising star Kim Huybrechts, as he saw off the resurgent Ronnie Baxter by six legs to four to round off the Last 16.

The Quarter-Finals will begin at 6pm GMT at the Tempodrom (7pm local time) and will be proceeded by the Semi-Finals and final later this evening, with the champion being crowned by the end of the night.
