Mark Cavendish makes Tour de France history

Mark Cavendish made Tour de France history as he won the third stage of the 2009 Tour de France following an exciting climax.

Cavendish has becme the first Brit to hold the green jersey for two days in a row, after his second successive Tour de France stage victory, and sixth in total.

The 24 year old just beat Thor Hushovd on the finishing line to head the group of 27 riders.

The group included seven-time champion Lance Armstrong, who moves up to third overall, and Fabian Cancellara, who maintains his hold on the yellow jersey.

It was a thrilling end to a day that had seen the race travel 196.5km from Marseille to La Grande Motte.
