Le Tour de France 2011 Stage 8 - Alberto Contador 5/1 favourite Visit Paddy Power Save For Later Posted by Bettingpro Staff 9 Jul 2011 Tweet Samuel Sanchez is 25/1 to win today´s stage of Le Tour de France Related Articles See all Tour de France news Share it Pin It Alberto Contador is expected to launch his bid to gain ground on his rivals in the 2011 Tour de France in the first of the punishing mountain stages of the race. The reignign champion has struggled this year, after a fall on the opening stage saw him lose valuable time on rivals such as Andy Schleck and Cadel Evans. The Spaniard is, however, vastly experienced and knows that it is in the punishing mountain stages that he will win or lose this year´s Tour, not on the sprints.Today the Tour begins its ascent, with the riders travelling 189km from Aigurande to Super-Besse Sancy and it is an opportunity for Contador to launch his atttack. The three times Tour de France winner is the 5/1 favourite, at Paddy Power to win today´s stage and he is certainly a strong contender.Evans is a best priced 6/1 (William Hill) while Philippe Gilbert, who currently wears the green jersey, is an 8/1 (bet365) shot. An interesting option, however, is Euskaltel Euskadi rider Samuel Sanchez. The Spaniard finished fourth in last year´s Tour and is a strong climber who likes to attack in stages such as today´s. His price of 25/1 (bet365) could look very big come the end of the day.
