Lance Armstrong lacks "condition" to win

- 8 May 2009

Seven time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong has ruled himself out of the running to win the Giro d'Italia because he doesn't have the "condition" to win.

"I feel better than I expected to feel but I know I don't have the condition to win," commented Armstrong.

This years Giro d'Italia has nine Britons participating including Mark Cavendish, David Millar and Bradley Wiggins.

"It's been a while since we were at a race of this magnitude. Certainly it's very exciting for me," said the 37-year-old Armstrong.

Britain's challenge is likely to dissipate as the altitude climbs and Cavendish may choose to drop out before the finish to concentrate on his preparation for the Tour de France.
