Watson questions ICC's committment on match-fixing issue Visit Ladbrokes Save For Later Posted by Suneer Chowdhary 1 Sep 2010 Tweet Related Articles See all Australian Cricket newsMumbai favourites to win Champions League Twenty20 Share it Pin It Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has questioned ICC’s commitment towards eradicating the menace of match-fixing on a day when it was revealed that the trio of Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir will be questioned by the Scotland Yard. Watson had earlier confirmed that he had been approached by a bookie during their previous Ashes in 2009 in London. The Queenslander said that given that it had taken a newspaper to expose the issue of spot-fixing in the Lord’s Test between England and Pakistan, meant that the ICC’s Anti Corruption and Security Unit had been largely unsuccessful in their job. Earlier, the ICC chief, Haroon Lorgat had also admitted that it was difficult for the ACSU given that they could neither arrest anyone nor go undercover. Watson added that it had got to the stage when the issues needed to be sorted as soon as they could to be able to maintain the face of the sport. He added, "People might turn away from cricket because they don't know [whether] what they are seeing is actually the true facts of cricket," Australian cricketers, Brad Haddin, Mitchell Johnson and Brett Lee, apart from Watson himself had been approached by bookies at different times and Australian manager, Steve Bernard confirmed the same. Australia travel to India next before facing England in the Ashes from November 2010. Blue Square offers 13/2 for Australia to win the series 2-1, while a 5-0 win for the home team is at 20/1 (Bet365). England, who had won the previous Ashes 2-1, are at 10/1 (888Sport) to repeat the same scoreline.
