James Pattinson took three wickets while Jon Holland scalped two in two overs to reduce Western Australia to 142/8 at tea on the second day of their Sheffield Shield game against Victoria.

Bowled out for 301 overnight at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Bushrangers fought back well to have reduced Western Australia to 6/2 overnight. Pattinson had taken both the wickets.

On the second day, Pattinson added a third wicket to his tally, before Scott Boland got rid of the WA captain Marcus North for 10. WA looked like they were in deep trouble at 26/4 before Adam Voges and Marcus Harris mounted some sort of a fightback. The pair added 48 runs.

However, once again, after the duo was separated, there wasn’t much joy for the visitors who lost wickets at regular intervals. Voges (30), Mitchell Marsh (9) and Michael Johnson (0) fell in quick succession as the WA slumped to 128/8. Travis Birt was at the crease, shepherding the tail at tea, with the team at 142/8. Birt was unbeaten on 47.

Earlier, debutant Jason Behrendorff got a four-for on his debut, including the wicket of top-scorer Rob Quiney who made 92. Glen Maxwell made 61 to help Victoria to 301 all out.

Victoria and Western Australia are currently tied for the second spot in the points table with eight points apiece from their three games. Before the match, Western Australia was slightly ahead on the Quotient but Victoria has a golden chance of going up on their opponents.

Victoria is currently 13/2 to win the Sheffield Shield this season to Western Australia's 10/1 (Victor Chandler) to take the cup home.
