South Australia Redbacks v Guyana Champions League T20 2010 at Johannesburg preview

The 17th game of the Champions League T20 this year will see the South Australians take on Guyana at the New Wanderers in Johannesburg. It is an inconsequential in that South Australia is already through to the semi-finals whereas Guyana has lost all their games and have crashed out of the tournament.

With no points from the three games, Guyana’s dreams of advancing to the semi-finals have been thwarted. But given the clear lack of quality in their batsmen, it is no surprise that they have folded so badly. In none of the games have the Guyanese batsmen looked a part, and except their captain’s half century in one match, the others have failed miserably. South Australia have been convincing in their performances and looked invincible.

Therefore, Blue Square offers 2/11 for South Australia to ease their way to a win, as compared to SportingBet’s 9/2 for a Guyanese win.

South Australia’s formula for success has been the batting of Michael Klinger (3/1 at Coral) at the top of the innings, followed by his opening partner, Daniel Harris’ (7/2 at BetFred) support. It would be fair to say, though, that the middle-order hasn’t been really tested in a pressure situation, and that is the one reason why the side may want to get in the other batsmen early – Callum Ferguson (9/2 at 888Sport) has had one innings of substance, while Graham Manou (5/1 at Blue Square) has generally had a bad time in the tournament.

One fails to understand the sense behind persisting with Travis Dowlin (9/2 at Coral) as the opening batsman. Not only has Dowlin not scored the runs, but he has not looked like doing that any way, and against Shaun Tait and co. that is not going to change. Narsingh Deonarine (5/1 at Ladbrokes) was dropped from the side in the previous game but he could be back, while Ramnaresh Sarwan (7/2 at Coral) will look to repeat his lone hand again, after none of the others have managed to take more responsibility.

Sarwan will need to see off the initial period before trying to play out the 20 overs without getting dismissed.

Tips:
Favourites: South Australia (2/11 at Blue Square)
Top South Australia batsman: Callum Ferguson (9/2 at 888Sport)
Top Guyana batsman: Ramnaresh Sarwan (7/2 at Coral)
