MATCH: South Africa v Australia 3rd ODI
DATE: Friday, October 28, 2011
TIME: 1430 hours local (1230 hours GMT)
VENUE: Kingsmead, Durban

South Africa play Australia in the deciding third ODI at Kingsmead in Durban on October 28 after the two sides had shared a game apiece.

Past Record:
Australia (1/1 at BetFred) won the first, rain-affected ODI by 93 runs, before South Africa (10/11 at SportingBet) reversed the result in the second, winning by 80. The last time these two sides played in Durban was the opening game of the series in 2009 and Australia had romped home to a massive 141-run win.

Team News:
Australia will be sweating on the fitness of Shane Watson (7/2 at Boylesports), whose back spasms did not allow him to either bat at the top of the innings or complete his spell of bowling. Michael Clarke has expressed his confidence that he will be fit to play in the third game but with such a long summer ahead, it could be foolhardy to feature a semi-fit Watson.

Especially given that Shaun Marsh seems to have now recovered from his fitness issues and could partner Dave Warner at the top of the innings. Of course, if Marsh and Warner do open the innings, it could reduce the balance of the side as the team will be rendered without a specialist bowler of the capability of Watson.

The bowling continues to remain in the hands of the pace trio of Mitchell Johnson, Doug Bollinger and Patrick Cummins. Xavier Doherty, who has bowled his 10 overs for 43 in the previous game where South Africa bludgeoned past 300, will continue to lead the spin bowling attack.

South Africa will be a tad happier given that their former captain Graeme Smith finally for some runs last game. As did Jacques Kallis (10/3 at Boylesports), JP Duminy and David Miller. Hashim Amla (7/2 at Boylesports) fell first ball to continue his poor form, but it could just be a matter of him settling down at the top of the innings before going on to get a big one.

Morne Morkel’s four-wicket haul in the second ODI won him the man of the match award and he will continue to spearhead the attack given Dale Steyn’s run-allowing sprees more recently. Imran Tahir will have to wait a little longer before he gets his first game against the Australian side.

Players to look out for
Michael Hussey (5/1 at SportingBet) has had a couple of 30s to his name in the series, but he will not be happy to have not converted them into something more substantial. Look out for him to manoeuvre his way to a biggie. South Africa’s pace bowlers will have a say on a hard, bouncy Kingsmead in Durban.

Prediction:
Australia still look the better of the two sides and they should win the series in a thrilling final game.
