Ben Cutting took seven wickets in a Sheffield Shield match as Queensland defeated New South Wales at Gabba in Brisbane to keep their unbeaten record this season.

Chasing a target of 224, New South Wales recovered from an abysmal start but still fell 14 runs short of the target on the fourth day of the match.

Captain Steve O’Keefe starred with the bat with the New South Wales with an aggressive 81-ball 82 from the number nine position, but Cutting had him dismissed last man to win the game.

At one stage, New South Wales had lost seven wickets for 85 runs, which put Queensland as firm favourites to run away with the game. Cutting took three of those seven wickets to fall before coming back to get rid of the opposition captain. Cutting went on to grab the man of the match award.

Earlier, Queensland had been propped by Cutting’s first innings 58 that took them to 282 in the first innings of the game. New South Wales replied with 277 in their first essay, which meant that they had failed to win the points for the first innings lead.

Keefe then led the New South Wales to a chance for a win with a four-wicket haul that bowled Queensland out for 218 setting the visitors a target of 224 for a win. Unfortunately, they fell short at the final hurdle by 14 runs.

With this win Queensland now have a 100% record, having won all their four matches. They have 24 points from their four games to the second placed Western Australia who have 14. New South Wales have only two points this season.
