MATCH: Royal Challengers Bangalore v Somerset

TIME: 2000 hours IST (1430 hours GMT)
VENUE: M Chinnaswamy in Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore will hope that the rains stay away from Bangalore in their penultimate must-win league game of the Champions League T20 against Somerset.

Past Record:
Bangalore (7/10 at SportingBet) have lost both their opening games and are on the verge of elimination. They went down to the Warriors off the last ball of the game before losing to the Kolkata Knight Riders in a rather one-sided chase by the opposition.

Technically, Somerset (11/8 at SkyBet) have played a couple of games but in the second one, went as far as up to the completion of the toss before the heavens opened up. They had earlier beaten the Kolkata Knight Riders in the first match after qualifying for the tournament through wins over Auckland and Kolkata, before the rained off game against South Australia.

Side-effect:
A third loss for Bangalore will end their chances of getting to the semi-finals, which have already sky-dived following the twin blows. A win will keep them alive by a hair’s breadth. Somerset have three points from two games in a closely fought group and while a loss will still allow them a chance, a win will greatly boost their odds of getting to the semi-finals.

Team News:
The Royal Challengers Bangalore have batted themselves in great positions in both their games. Against the Warriors, they made 172 while 169 were scored against KKR. And on both the occasions, the runs were scored without any telling contribution from Chris Gayle (5/2 at Paddy Power). It just speaks about their batting depth.

However, the problem has been their bowling. At least two of the bowlers have leaked around 11 per over in both the games and it has only shown that the opposition has been able to play out the likes of Daniel Vettori without taking much risk while going after the rest. Up front, Dirk Nannes has bowled seven overs for 71 in the two games and that is costing Bangalore dear.

Somerset will look to go into the game with returns to Craig Kieswetter (7/2 at Ladbrokes) and Jos Buttler that should further strengthen the batting, even as Roelof van der Merwe continues to instill some fear with his brand of all-round skills.

Where Somerset may face a challenge is the lack of match practice – it has been eight days since they played a game and if Gayle takes off early in the game, the heat could rise in the kitchen.

Who is hot?
Bangalore will look to the currently out of runs, Virat Kohli (7/2 at BetFred) to shore up the middle-order after the loss of AB de Villiers. Somerset will hope for some quick runs in the middle from Buttler, who not too many in the opposition would have seen.

Prediction:
Bangalore will look to take the home advantage and despite their form, could go into the game as favourites.
