Australia captain Ricky Ponting has revealed that he will retire from international Twenty20 cricket but continue one day cricket and Test cricket.

Ponting will remain as captain of the Australian Test and one-day sides but will step away from the Twenty20 format in a bid to extend his playing career.

Ponting remains determined to win back the Ashes, and will have "set periods of rest" during the international calendar.

Ponting revealed: "As I said after the fifth Test in London, I am hoping to continue playing Test cricket for as long as possible and retiring from the Twenty20 format gives me the best chance of doing this."

Australia are currently leading England 2-0 in the ODI seven match series, bet on the England vs Australia ODI series with a free bet from Victor Chandler.
