Rajasthan Royals v Royal Challengers Bangalore IPL Game 55 at Jaipur Preview and Tips

This is the 55th game of the Indian Premier League and will see the Rajasthan Royals play the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The game will be played at the Sawai Man Singh stadium in Jaipur.

In this battle of the ‘Royals’, if Rajasthan lose, they will be all but out of the tournament while a win for them will keep them alive but just below Bangalore in the points table.

Rajasthan v Bangalore odds:
Rajasthan (7/4 at Blue Square) will be fairly disappointed with their twin-performances against the Chennai Super Kings. This is the second time that they have lost two back-to-back games against the same opponents and the loss sent their captain Shane Warne in a tizzy. Upset at being instructed to play on a pitch which did not assist their mode of bowling, the Royals had allowed the Super Kings to get to almost 200 and then went down by 63 runs.

Warne would hope that they can get back to playing on their favourite, slow and low pitch, which will assist their slow bowlers and stall the strong Bangalore (8/15 at Stan James) batting.

Ground and Pitch:
As mentioned above, Rajasthan would love to play on the centre pitch, after being made to play on the side one which allowed the batsmen to play their strokes with much ease.

Player News:
Chris Gayle (9/4 at bet365) has been in the form of his life. Even by T20 standards, his strike rate has been stunning and to go with his twin-centuries, he has been the batsman who has filled the fear of the maker in most bowlers in the last five games. Where things could get interesting is if the game does get played on the same pitch which had seen Mumbai collapse for 94 – will Gayle then be able to go after the bowling as easily.

In that case, there is a good chance that the likes of Virat Kohli (4/1 at BetFred) or AB de Villiers (9/2 at Boylesports) will need to come to the party. The bad news is that Cheteshwar Pujara (12/1 at Paddy Power) hurt his knee in the previous game and is a doubtful starter in this game. Asad Pathan (14/1 at Blue Square) may replace Pujara in the side.

For Rajasthan, there is a question of Shane Watson’s (11/4 at bet365) form. The issue is that he has done moderately well to retain a place in the side, but failed to live up to his lofty expectations. This has put some pressure on the middle-order.

Ajinkya Rahane (5/1 at BetFred) was sent at the number three position and he made a half century, but Ross Taylor (9/2 at Blue Square) failed at four. Taylor, to me, is the key pivot around which the fortunes of the side rest. If he can get a move on at that important number four position, the side will have a chance.

Prediction:
Bangalore’s five-match winning streak puts them as favourites to win this. Rajasthan will fight hard though and if the pitch can assist them, it will be an even-steven battle.
