Pune Warriors India v Mumbai Indians IPL Game 44 at DY Patil, Navi Mumbai Preview and Tips

Mumbai Indians will have another chance to remain atop of the points table when they take on the Pune Warriors India in the 44th game of the Indian Premier League.

In fact, two things could happen if the Mumbai Indians won this one; they would probably be through to the last four stage and Pune Warriors would have bitten the dust as far as this year’s IPL is concerned.

Mumbai v Pune odds:
The Mumbai Indians (4/7 at BetFred) will be firm favourites going into the game given the way they have played in the competition and when juxtaposed with Pune’s poor record. Mumbai has won six games, Pune has lost those many, which puts them poles apart – not just figuratively. Currently, the Mumbai Indians are at the top of the table whereas the Pune Warriors (13/8 at SportingBet) are last, with very little chance of going through to the playoffs.

Ground and Pitch:
The game will be played at the Dr DY Patil stadium in Navi Mumbai and there will be enough bounce in the pitch to keep the Mumbai side interested. The track will resemble the one that the Mumbai Indians enjoy batting on back on their home ground.

Player News:
Mumbai Indians had made one change to their batting line-up in the previous game, having gone in with T Suman (12/1 atbet365) in place of Rajagopal Satish (20/1 at bet365). It did not affect the side much as Suman did not get a chance to bat – most of the damage been done by the twin-half centuries from the bat of Orange Cap-holder Sachin Tendulkar (2/1 at Blue Square) and his protégé Ambati Rayadu (5/1 at BetFred).

Kieron Pollard (8/1 at BetFred) ended up with the man of the match prize for his bit and pieces assistance with the bat, ball and in the field. Having tasted blood, one can expect some more from his bat in this game.

Eight games into the IPL, the Warriors unveiled their new opening batsman and vice-captain Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly, who had been given the miss in the auction comes into the side in place of Ashish Nehra and should now walk into the playing eleven, opening the innings with Jesse Ryder (3/1 at Blue Square). The Warriors will hope that he can get something going for the beleaguered Pune top-order but to expect him to turn the fortunes around will be foolhardy.

Instead, it is the batting of Yuvraj Singh (9/2 at Coral) and Robin Uthappa (5/1 at Coral) that needs to shore up the Pune Warriors line-up – at least one of the aforementioned needs to bat right through the innings at acceptable strike-rate to be able to lift the Warriors to a manageable score.

Prediction:
Mumbai Indians will be favourites to win this, by a country mile. The inclusion of Ganguly will increase the interest levels in the game but whether they can change Pune’s fortunes is a question that needs answering.
