The Pakistani spinners continue to act as the Sri Lankan scourge as only 113 runs came from their 27 overs but also had six wickets falling to their slow bowling. On the other hand, Sri Lanka’s premier bowler, Lasith Malinga bagged a couple of wickets but went for 57 off his 10 overs – they either need more wickets at the top from him or lesser runs conceded off him.Pakistan seem to have done most things right this series. The cornerstone of their success continues to be their spin attack but credit must be given to the way they have batted as a unit – something that has rarely been seen from a Pakistani side of the recent past. Different batsmen have put their hands up in the course of the series and led them to more than reasonable scores, even as the Sri Lankan batting has looked feeble. Tillakaratne Dilshan’s 64 and Kumar Sangakkara’s 45 were the standout performances from the third ODI but the form is too patchy for the Sri Lankan batters for them to pose a real challenge. The youngsters in the side, like Dinesh Chandimal and Jeevan Mendis will need their time under the sun before they can be expected to take up the gauntlet – and with the seniors showing average form in the year gone by, things are looking tough for the visitors.Pakistan will be favourites again (8/11 at BetFred) with Sri Lanka at 11/10 (Boylesports) to make it 2-2.
