Pakistan will look to salvage something out of their ODI series against England when the two sides meet in the fourth and final match on Tuesday.

England lead the series 3-0 and while it will not help them fully overcome their 3-0 whitewash in the Test matches, it should act as a balm to reduce their suffering. The side will hope to win their fourth game in a row in a format they haven’t done too well in the past.

Pakistan’s batting has been a major let-down for them in the series. In the first two games, they were chasing difficult targets and they fell away but they cannot use that excuse for the third ODI where they batted first. They collapsed to 50/4 at one stage and despite half-centuries from Shahid Afridi and Umar Akmal, managed to get only 222 on a flat wicket.

Kevin Pietersen signalled his return to form with a swashbuckling century – he used only 98 balls to get to an unbeaten 111 and lead his side to a win. Alastair Cook, who had gone into the game with two centuries to his name, missed his chance to score a third successive 100 as he fell for 80.

For Pakistan, the middle-order has struggled in the absence of starts from Mohammad Hafeez and with the fitness of Younis Khan being a concern, they will need much more from their captain Misbah-ul-Haq. Imran Farhat’s lack of runs could push him out of the 11 too.

England, having won the series, will be tempted to experiment a little. With likes of Jonny Bairstow, Danny Briggs, Jos Buttler and Jade Dernbach having not played a single game this series, they may get a chance here. Dernbach could be in line to replace one of the faster men – Stuart Broad or James Anderson, as the management looks to manage the amount of cricket they play.

The visitors will be favourites to make it 4-0 at Dubai.

The England v Pakistan 4th ODI will be played at 11 am GMT on February 21.
