Pakistan won by eight wickets with more than 28 overs to spare, as they went on to chase a paltry target of 132 set by Sri Lanka with ease.

The chase was never in doubt despite the early fall of Mohammad Hafeez as the pair of Imran Farhat and Younis Khan smashed aggressive half-centuries in their 103-run stand. Suranga Lakmal, who had got Hafeez out caught, also got the better of Farhat after he had completed his half-century but by then the game had been sealed.

Younis (56) sealed the Sri Lankan fate to keep them winless on tour.

Earlier, Sri Lanka had struggled to get going. None of their batsmen crossed 30, while there were five who did not even get off the single-digit score. Surprisingly, Sri Lanka struggled against what was expected to be their strong suite – batting against spin bowling.

Barring Dinesh Chandimal and Upul Tharanga and their third wicket partnership that helped the visitors to 66/2, not too many got a start. Mohammad Hafeez and Saeed Ajmal got a couple of wickets apiece, whereas Shahid Afridi bagged three wickets to bowl Sri Lanka out for 131 in their 40.3 overs.

Pakistan batted for five overs before the scheduled lunch break to get to 30/1 before returning back to complete the facile win. Afridi's three-wicket haul won him the man of the match award.

The second ODI of the series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be played on November 14 at Dubai.
