New South Wales will host the Western Australian side at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday, January 9 in what will be the second KFC Big Bash T20 game for both the sides.

New South Wales (4/6 at Stan James) is the only team apart from Victoria to have won a Big Bash T20 title. They started off well in the tournament, winning the first game against previous year runner-up, South Australia. On the other hand, Western Australia Warriors (6/5 at Bwin) were crushed by Tasmania in the first game of the tournament and will need to bounce back really well to have a chance of making a comeback.

Western Australia have a decent batting side with the presence of Chris Gayle at the top of the innings and Shaun Marsh opening the innings with him. Marsh had won the Orange Cap in the first edition of the IPL and apart from some back injuries, would have been a regular in both, the T20I and the Australia ODI side.

Down the order, Luke Pomersbach, Adam Voges  and Luke Ronchi  form a good nucleus of batting for this format of the game and that should hold them in good stead. However, a lot will depend on how the bowling goes about their business given that they had conceded 189 in their previous game.

New South Wales had begun their campaign with a win thanks to their tested opening batsman, Dave Warner’s (7/2 at Stan James) 58-ball 73. Daniel Smith (4/1 at Stan James) had had a good start to the tournament in that game as well but what the side would probably be worried about is their middle-order collapse. Moises Henriques’ (11/2 at Stan James) initiation to the T20 format was excellent but the ensuing injuries have meant that he will need to rebuild his form in the tournament.
