In the process, he becomes the first ever non-Australian to take on the role of the coach of the national Australian side. Arthur will take over the role from the first Test match against New Zealand at home from December 1 and he has been handed over the role till the 2015 World Cup. Arthur thanked the Australian cricket board for allowing him the job and said that he was “honoured and privileged” to get the opportunity. He added, "I think I bring a fresh, unblinkered eye to the role after plotting against Australia when coaching South Africa and having now worked within the Australian system with the Warriors.”Some of the other coaches who were in running for the job included Andy Flower, current fielding coach Steve Rixon, Tom Moody and current batting coach Justin Langer. Arthur’s other roles will include pushing the state sides to have a coaching philosophy similar to that possessed by the national side.
