Ex-England captain Michael Vaughan's future is in doubt amid rumours that he is poised to retire.

The 34-year-old Vaughan was left out of Yorkshire's squad for their Twenty20 game with Derbyshire on Sunday and is believed to be holding talks with the club officials at Headingley.

Vaughan led England to Ashes success against Australia in 2005 and is the country's most successful Test captain.

However he was left out of a 16-man training squad for this summer's Ashes series, which starts on the 8th of July.

The ECB are believed to have ruled out a statement about Vaughan's future, claiming the stories about possible retirement were "merely speculation."
