Again, barring Gibbs’ 154, none of the other batsmen who have played a couple of games this tournament have a strike-rate of more than 121. If batting is a bit of a concern from the Scorchers, then Michael Beer and Brad Hogg possess an economy of 5.9 and 6.8 to alleviate a bit of that. Both left-arm spinners have controlled the opposition well even as the others went for aplenty. Given Cameron White’s (7/1 at Ladbrokes) poor run of form, they look like a batsman short in the middle order. Rob Quiney’s batting at the top of the order and David Hussey’s consistent run of form in the middle have bailed them out of any trouble but very soon the captain will need to start scoring some runs if they have to go all the way. The fans have an added attraction to follow Melbourne Stars, their leg-spinning legend Shane Warne. His comeback to Australian cricket wasn’t good after Warner took him apart for runs, but he came back well in the remaining two games – restricting the batsmen. His battle against Gibbs could be an interesting given the South African batsman’s penchant to go after the bowling.
