Ireland v Bangladesh 2nd T20I live and odds: Bangladesh favourites after convincing first win

Bangladesh (3/4 at Bwin) completed a convincing win in the opening game of the T20I series, defeating the hosts by a whopping 71 runs. The Irish bowlers were carted to all parts of the ground in a Bangladeshi batting display that saw Shakib al Hasan top-score with a 33-ball 57. 

Debutant Ziaur Rahman smashed a 17-ball 40 in his first showing and helped the side to 70 runs in the last 31 balls of the match. 

Ireland (5/4 at Coral) were never in hunt as they collapsed to a measly 119 with Gary Wilson being the only batsman to get himself some runs. Elias Sunny, who was tried out as the sixth bowler in the innings, went on to capture a five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 5/13. This career-best analysis gave Sunny the man-of-the-match award and Ireland much to think about.

For one, the strategy to field first is a good one given that rains could reduce the number of overs at any point. Plus, they have the fast bowlers to test the Bangladeshi batsmen. 

So while this tactic did not work for Ireland in the first game, they shouldn’t give on it and try and bowl better channels instead. Again, the batsmen did not come good for Ireland but a lot could be attributed to the fact that they were facing a huge score and capitulated meekly. Expect a better performance in the second game from Ireland. 

That said, Bangladesh’s clinical first win makes them the favourite going into the second game. Abdur Razzaq and Shakib al Hasan bowled extremely well despite the conditions not being in their favour – ending with combined figures of 2/35 in eight. 

If Rahman can continue chipping in with a few lusty blows down the order, the Bangladeshi batting has the fire-power to bat deep into the order for a T20 game. 

The Ireland v Bangladesh second T20I begins at 5 pm local time on July 20.
