Bangladesh will begin their tour of Ireland with the first T20I at Stormont on July 18.

The visitors had a good start to the tour of Ireland with a couple of wins in the tour games played yesterday.

In the first game, propped by a half-century from Mohammad Ashraful and a Mahmudullah’s 43, the Bangladeshis scored 164. Then Elias Sunny took a couple of wickets to stem the Irish flow of runs, ending their innings at 61/5 in 13.2 overs. It rained after that and Bangladeshis won by 48 runs according to the Duckworth-Lewis system.

In the second tour game, it was Mashrafe Mortaza’s spell of 3/14 in his four overs that helped Bangladeshis restrict the Ireland XI innings to only 103 in their 20 overs. Shakib al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim were then involved in a 61-run stand that saw the team through to a win.

Ireland will be led by William Porterfield with Niall O’Brien and his brother Kevin as two of the batsmen to look out for. Boyd Rankin will hope to extract enough bounce from the Belfast surface to trouble the opponents, who are more attuned to playing on tracks that keep low.

George Dockrell is an extremely intelligent left-arm spinner and despite the opponent’s obvious propensity with his breed of bowling, he will have a role to play.

Rahim will hope his side can replicate the performances from the warm-up games. Both the batting and bowling clicked nicely for them in those matches. Their recent form isn’t up to the mark though with losses in the tri-series against Zimbabwe and South Africa and a one-off defeat at the hands of Pakistan in a T20I.

Shakib al Hasan will be the key and chances are that he will bat higher up the order.
