Ladbrokes forced to pay out over half a million pounds after India beat Sri Lanka in the final of the Cricket World Cup

India's win in the Cricket World Cup has cost Ladbrokes in excess of half a million pounds.

The pre-tournament favourites were the subject of two £80,000 bets from English customers at 7/2 with support for the winners remaining consistent at all stages of the tournament.

India are the 7/2 favourites to defend their crown at the 2015 World Cup co-hosted by Australia (4/1 second favourites) and New Zealand (10/1). England are 8/1 chances.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes told Bettingpro: "We feel like we've been smashed into the stands by Dhoni. His emphatic winner was a bitter pill to swallow and his men are the favourites to defend their crown in 2015."
