The home side has already won the series but will look to finish it on a high. This is the last game India play before embarking upon a rather vital tour of Australia and a win will help boosting their confidence further.

Win aside, the likes of Gautam Gambhir (4/1 at Blue Square) and even the double-centurion from the previous game Virender Sehwag (7/2 at Coral), will want to score a few more runs. Both went into the fourth game with not too many runs in the series and while they did well in that match, another long stint at the wicket will not harm their confidence.

Apart from Sehwag’s double century, Suresh Raina also spent a good amount of time at the crease after failing to get to double figures in the first three matches. He will look to get another opportunity up the order.

However, Raina does not play an international for some time now, while Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be on that plane to Australia. Both could do with promotions up the order to be able to impress the selectors as India look to seal their number six batsman for the Test matches.

There is a likelihood of Irfan Pathan featuring in the game after Rahul Sharma was selected ahead of him to make his debut. Sharma scalped three wickets in the fourth ODI. Pathan could now be selected in place of either Abhimanyu Mithun and will partner Vinay Kumar to open the bowling.

West Indies will know they played well in the first three ODIs but were hit by a blitzkrieg in the fourth. Most of whatever they bowled was deposited to the fence and the daunting score of more than 400 was always going to be a big ask.

There were some positives to take for the West Indies from that game. One, Denesh Ramdin’s (12/1 at Coral) form is a huge plus. He scored 96 and perished while going for his maiden ODI century. Then again, Lendl Simmons (4/1 at Coral) got some kind of a start, while Marlon Samuels smashed 33 at better than a run-a-ball to give the visitors some hope.

The one area that West Indies can look to make changes is their bowling. Going into an ODI in India with four pace bowlers is a surprising move, contrasted by India’s decision to play only two fast bowlers in the previous game. At Chennai, where this game will be played, the track can be expected to assist the slower bowlers and West Indies will need to choose between Kemar Roach and adding an extra spinner in Anthony Martin.

Kieron Pollard has had a poor series with both, the bat and the ball. He has made 80 runs in the four games and picked up only two wickets and it may be a good idea to get in the other all-rounder in the side – Jason Mohammad. Rest of the team remains the same.

India (2/5 at William Hill) will be favourites to win this dead rubber, but they have gone down in such inconsequential games in the past. Ladbrokes offers 5/2 for a West Indian victory.
