Laxman, who was on 73 overnight, got to his 17th Test match century, in the process continued his love-affair with Eden Gardens. The wristy Hyderabadi had an average of 103 at this ground going into the game and the century ensured that he would be able to return with a similar statistic at the end of the match. Interestingly, Laxman got to his century with his favourite stroke – a flick to a delivery outside off-stump to mid-wicket. He needed 157 balls to get there. Earlier on the first day, Dravid had got to his 36th century, and the pair helped India through to 346/5. Yuvraj Singh was the first batsman dismissed on the second day of this second Test match with the score reading 396/6. Yuvraj’s was a scratchy innings of 25 that further dented his chances of making it to the Test match playing 11 on their tour of Australia. Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara are already breathing down his neck and things could get difficult for Yuvraj if he does not have at least one big one under his belt.India lead the series 1-0 after winning the first Test match at Delhi by six wickets. They are at 4/9 (Stan James) to clinch the series at Kolkata with a win, while West Indies need a miracle (33/1 at BetFred) to turn things around from this position to level the series.
