Already armed with a lead of 108 runs, West Indies were ahead by 189 runs and with only one day’s play remaining, West Indies looked good for a draw. In the first session of the fifth day, however, West Indies crumbled against the spinning ball. Pragyan Ojha, who had scalped both the wickets on the fourth day, came up with four more on the fifth, while Ashwin also eked out a four-wicket haul for himself. West Indies lost their last eight wickets for the addition of 43 runs only.Barring Kieran Powell who got 11 and captain Darren Sammy, who managed 10, none of the other batsmen got into double-figures on the fifth day. Kraig Brathwaite added one to his overnight score of 34 whereas Darren Bravo’s innings ended on 48. India now need to score 243 to win the third Test match and sweep the series clean, but have only 64 overs in which they need to get those runs. Earlier, West Indies had scored 590 in their first innings and if they lose this match, it will be the first time a team would have lost it after making those many in their opening essay.
