India take on West Indies in the third and the final Test match of the series at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from Tuesday, November 22.

India already lead 2-0 in the series and will be gunning for a clean sweep, something they have never inflicted on the West Indies. On the other hand, West Indies have beaten India 5-0 in a five-match series, five decades ago.

The home side has generally had the best of most exchanges in the series so far. Barring the first innings collapse in the first Test and the brief fightback from Darren Bravo and Marlon Samuels in the second innings of the second Test match, India have looked like being head and shoulders ahead of their opposition.

But from a statistical view-point and that from a Sachin Tendulkar-fan’s perspective, the game will also be closely followed for his, potentially epoch-making century. He has 99 Test centuries to his name and getting to his 100th ton at home will be one he will want to do.

The other talking point is the number six spot in the Indian line-up. Ever since Sourav Ganguly retired in 2008 and VVS Laxman moved up to five, the sixth spot is up for grabs but has not been sealed by any one batsman. Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli and Chesteshwar Pujara have all been tried but to no real success. Yuvraj, who played in the first two Tests, has been dropped from the squad and Rohit Sharma comes in. It remains to be seen, however, who of Rohit Sharma or Kohli will make it to the 11 tomorrow.

West Indies had a fitness scare with Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s calf injury but it has been reported that he should play in the game. The batting otherwise is a worry, what with the openers having added 25, 0, 3 and 23 for the first wicket in the two Tests. This has put undue pressure on the middle-order and while Bravo smashed a superb century in the second innings previous Test, his dismissal resulted in the final of five wickets for 62 runs.

Unfortunately for the West Indian bowling, Fidel Edwards has yet to strike. Figures of 1/57, 1/51 and 1/81 are hardly earth-shattering from a bowler who was expected to lead the West Indian attack. Even the third pace bowler after Edwards and captain Darren Sammy is a bit of a concern – with both Ravi Rampaul (in the first Test) and Kemar Roach (in the second) having not had the best of times.

This makes India favourites (2/5 at bet365) to beat the West Indies, who are at 10/1 (Ladbrokes) to win one back. Coral offers 12/5 for a drawn third Test match.
