India DRS Controversy: Sachin Tendulkar wants Hot-Spot, Snicko

Related Articles
After the BCCI has been roundly castigated by the rest of the cricketing world in general and the English bowlers in particular last week over the opposition to the Decision Review System, Sachin Tendulkar has sought to calm things down by saying that his own stance is that for the DRS to be used, it efficacy needs to be improved by the use of both, Snickometer and Hot Spot technology.

The Indians have opposed the usage of DRS since the first series that it was used in 2008. Then, it was used in the series between India and Sri Lanka and yielded very poor results for the Indians. Since that series, the Indians have been vehemently opposing the DRS and it has led to much agitation amongst those sides which want to use it – which is pretty much all the other sides!

Tendulkar has said that the best way to go about the use of DRS is to try and merge all the available technologies to make it more accurate, but BCCI President Shashank Manohar and Indian captain have opposed it every time.

Manohar said, “I have even told the ICC that we have no problem with Hot Spot. Our objection is to ball tracking, it becomes just a case of someone else's imagination versus the umpire's imagination.” On the other hand, MS Dhoni has often said that it was an 'adulteration' of technology with human judgment.

Earlier this week, English bowlers, James Anderson and Chris Tremlett had expressed their surprise at the Indian rejection of the DRS. There were even claims in some newspapers that the Indian team was apprehensive of using the DRS in their series against England because of the success that Graeme Swann has enjoyed with it.

India play England in a four-match Test series and go in as second favourites to win it. Unibet offers 13/10 for an English series win, while India go in at 9/4 (SportingBet). SportingBet also offers 11/4 for a drawn, four-match Test series.
