Guyana v Lions Champions League T20 2010 at Wanderers, Johannesburg preview

The first match of the second Sunday of the Champions League T20 this year will be played between the Lions and the West Indian side of Guyana. Lions have a win from two games, whereas Guyana have yet to open their account.

Given the kind of performances that have come from the Guyanese stable, it will be difficult to see how they can put one across their opposition and the hosts. They will probably need a miracle to win with the kind of bowling attack that they have got. Having said that, the Lions cannot afford to get complacent. They would have seen the manner in which the Guyanese side batted in the game against the Mumbai Indians, and with a shuffle in the batting order, they may be able to take advantage of the mediocre opposition bowling.

Boylesports offer 4/11 for the Lions to make it two out of three, while Guyana is at 3/1 (bet365) to win this one.

The Guyanese side were propelled in the previous game by Ramnaresh Sarwan (7/2 at Coral), but their problems at the top of the order remain. Travis Dowlin (9/2 at Coral) looks like fish out of water against the new ball, and someone like a Christopher Barnell (6/1 at Coral) or Jonathon Foo (14/1 at Blue Square) could be promoted up the order.

Alviro Petersen (3/1 at Blue Square) had led the charge for the Lions against the South Australians, but had fallen short of the target. He does look like a batsman with a firm head on his shoulders and despite the weak Guyanese bowling attack will look to bat through the innings. At the other end, Jonathon Vandiar (7/2 at 888Sport) had played a match-winning innings against the Mumbai Indians, but failed in the South Australia game.

One also gets the feeling that Zander de Bruyn (13/2 at 888Sport) is being wasted down the order and could be of a great value at the number three or four, in order to carry on the momentum.

Tips:
Favourites: Lions (4/11 at Boylesports)
Top Lions batsman: Alviro Petersen (3/1 at Blue Square)
Top Guyana batsman: Christopher Barnell (6/1 at Coral)
