The Delhi Daredevils will take on the Kings XI Punjab in the 64th game of the Indian Premier League this season at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.

A Historical View:

The Delhi Daredevils are still perched at the top of the points table, but not as comfortably as they were a few games ago. They have 18 points from 13 games, to Mumbai Indians’ 18 points from 14 and a defeat here will put them at par with Mumbai.

After an excellent run of form, the Daredevils have lost two of their last three games, with the only win coming against the bottom-placed Deccan Chargers.

Kings XI Punjab are in with a shout of qualifying for the playoffs too and despite being seventh, currently have 14 points from 13 games. If they win all three of their remaining matches, they should be through to the playoffs, while two wins out of three could push them through if their net run-rate improves.

Punjab have won four of their last five games. Interestingly, of the eight times the two sides have played each other, Punjab has won five.

Odds:

Delhi continue to remain favourites for this game, with Blue Square offering 4/7 for their win to 13/8 (William Hill) if Punjab win.

Probable selection:

Kings XI Punjab seem to have got their selections right with Azhar Mahmood’s presence and Ryan Harris’ inclusion adding a lot of spite to their team. With David Hussey showing signs of form in the last few games and Shaun Marsh only an innings away from getting something really big, they look to have a side to beat.

Mandeep Singh could be the player to watch out for Punjab this game after some excellent scores in the tournament.

Delhi Daredevils have felt the absence of the Kevin Pietersen and the loss of form for Virender Sehwag. Pietersen’s replacement Dave Warner has got a century in his three outings but he will need to match the consistency of Pietersen. Sehwag, who earlier had five half-centuries in a row, will hope to get off to a start again.

Morne Morkel seems to have tapered off a tad as well and while it could be a bold move, Delhi might toy with the idea of resting him. That could fire him up a little for the remaining games. Umesh Yadav and Varun Aaron will lead the attack in that case.
