The Delhi Daredevils host the King XI Punjab in the 26th game of the IPL at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Saturday. This is the only game of the day and will start at 8.00 pm local time.

Delhi v Punjab odds:
That Delhi (8/11 at Blue Square) have gone into the tournament with one fast bowler too many is beyond doubt. That Virender Sehwag is struggling with his form is also obvious. However, what is surprising is that Kings XI Punjab (6/5 at BetFred) shown commendable grit and determination in turning things around for themselves after they were tipped to go crashing in much the same manner that they had last season. Currently, they have three wins from four games, to Delhi’s three losses in four and will be favourites to win it.

Ground and Pitch:
Till the previous game, the pitch at the Kotla was one that had no bounce or pace. The quick bowlers had to bend their back and yet, they struggled to get anything out of it. For this game, a new track is said to be unveiled, one which will have a fair amount of grass covering and thus, allow the faster men to feel more pleased about the proceedings.

Player News:
Delhi Daredevils’ over-reliance on Dave Warner (3/1 at Paddy Power) and Venugopal Rao (10/1 at Blue Square) is definitely hurting the side. The lack of form from Virender Sehwag’s (11/4 at SkyBet) bat – he has scored only 72 in the four games – is one of the reason behind his side’s slump, as is the lack of viable spinning options.

The Daredevils have another conundrum. Their middle-order has had a patchy run of form as well, with the much-vaunted Aaron Finch (7/1 at BetFred) having yet to adapt to the Indian wickets. He will find the green on the pitch to his liking as that should allow the ball to come onto the bat but given his form, he may be confined to the bench. Getting in Colin Ingram may not be such a bad idea.

Punjab are on a roll and much of it can be attributed to the way in which they have batted. Adam Gilchrist (4/1 at SkyBet) was expected to be their knight in the armour, but his form has been wayward. Instead, it is the Mumbai-born Paul Valthaty (7/2 at Blue Square), who has stolen the thunder – and the Orange Cap for now – and catapulted Punjab to the top three in the points table.

Where they would be further relieved is that Shaun Marsh (9/2 at Blue Square), who was on the verge of being replaced by David Hussey in the previous game has come good with his sizzling 72 (41 balls). He should continue to maintain his spot at that crucial number three position.

Prediction:
Punjab is on a roll. With Gilchrist leading the team and Michael Bevan as their coach, it also means that the team may not get carried away in the euphoria surrounding the victories – as is evident in the way Valthaty has also kept his feet on the ground. They should win this one against the struggling Daredevils.
