Deccan Chargers v Kolkata Knight Riders IPL Game 42 at Hyderabad Preview and Tips

The 42nd game of this season’s Indian Premier League will be played between the Deccan Chargers and the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Rajiv Gandhi stadium in Hyderabad.

Kolkata is the in-form side at the second position in the points table while Deccan Chargers have lost more than they have won and are currently staring down the barrel as far as the tournament standings are concerned.

Deccan Chargers v Kolkata Knight Riders odds:
The Chargers (11/8 at Paddy Power) have won three and lost five, including the previous game against the Chennai Super Kings. What would irk the captain and the team management more will be the manner of loss in the previous game. They seemed to have had the asking rate under control before they lost wickets playing some silly strokes and in turn lost the game.

The Knight Riders (4/6 at Stan James) are looking very potent, having won five games out of eight. Another win here will leave them with requiring about two more wins off the remaining five to get to the next stage. And given the manner in which they have batted, it looks highly likely that they will be able to trump the home team.

Ground and Pitch:
It will be a much easier wicket to bat on than the one at Eden Gardens, but the night game may provide some moisture and hence some swing for the swing bowlers. Chargers need to get back Dale Steyn for this one.

Player News:
Kolkata had brought Eoin Morgan (8/1 at Stan James) to open the innings, a decision that is nothing short of excellent. For someone who is an excellent player in the middle of the innings in other conditions, he hasn’t been able to adjust to the Indian conditions and by batting at the start of the innings, it gives an ample opportunity to change things around. If one of Jacques Kallis (11/4 at Boylesports) or Yusuf Pathan (8/1 at BetFred) can get their run of form going, the Knight Riders will be hard to stop unless...

...unless the Deccan Chargers can get moving with the bat. It has been a disappointing performance by the Chargers top-order with Kumar Sangakkara (11/4 at Stan James) being the chief culprit. He has failed to build on his starts and barring an innings or so, not too many runs have come off his bat. Sunny Sohal (9/2 at BetFred) smacked the Super Kings in the previous game but except an innings or two of note like that, not too many have done too much to write home about.

JP Duminy (5/1 at Boylesports) could be dropped to make way for Dale Steyn.

Prediction:
Kolkata Knight Riders will be hard to stop and should win this one.
