Controversial Ryder needs to help himself: NZ Coach Visit Ladbrokes Save For Later Posted by Suneer Chowdhary 10 Aug 2010 Tweet Related Articles See all Other Cricket news Share it Pin It The coach of the New Zealand cricket team has come down heavily on Jesse Ryder, who was recently involved in rowdy behaviour after being intoxicated. The coach said that while the New Zealand management will not cease to work with the beleaguered cricketer, it will depend on Ryder how he wants to help himself. New Zealand Cricket had fined Ryder for his behaviour and the player had apologised to the board. Greatbatch added that the player had said that he wanted to be more responsible with the way he went about his business. He added, "We will work with him but he's also got to help himself. So we want to be positive with that - but he obviously has some work to do." Ryder is not a part of the New Zealand side in the ongoing Micromax Cup tri-series in Sri Lanka due to an elbow injury. Greatbatch expressed his disappointment about his behaviour when being out of the side due to injury. He also added that Ryder needs to ready himself to being a responsible adult and a professional sportsman. Ryder has already been involved in some controversies related to excessive drinking and one occasion, he had broken a window-pane with his hand. He had ended up with a gashed hand and missed international cricket after that. Ryder averages nearly 50 in Test matches apart from 36 in ODIs. Sri Lanka goes into the Micromax tri-series as favourites, with BetFred offering 5/4 for their win. India is at 11/8 (Ladbrokes) to win the series whereas Boylesports offers 7/1 if New Zealand surprise the other two sides despite the absence of Daniel Vettori and Brendon McCullum.
