Chennai Super Kings v Rajasthan Royals IPL Game 43 at Chepauk Preview and Tips

Chennai Super Kings will be the hosts in their game against the Rajasthan Royals at the Chepauk. This is the 43rd game of the Indian Premier League with both sides at amongst the top three in the points table looking to edge their way past Mumbai Indians at the top.

Chennai v Rajasthan odds:
The two sides are pretty evenly matched so far. The only point separating the two teams is the one that Rajasthan Royals (6/4 at Coral) won through their abandoned game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Chennai have ten points from eight games whereas Rajasthan go into this with 11 from nine.

Playing at home is a huge advantage for Chennai (8/13 at SportingBet). If Rajasthan Royals have called their home stadium as their fortress, Chepauk has been the Super Kings’ citadel and the opponents have found it difficult to break it down.

Ground and Pitch:
The Chepauk is a slow and low track and in the last few games, batting second has become even more difficult here given the way that the Chargers capitulated in the previous game after the ball lost its sheen.

Player News:
The Chennai Super Kings will be a happier unit ever since Albie Morkel (12/1 at Boylesports) recaptured his form with both, the bat and the ball. He was the man of the match in the previous game thanks to his three shots that carried all the way over the fence and a reasonably good spell of bowling.

Where the Super Kings will probably need something more will be at the top of the innings from Murali Vijay (7/2 at BetFred). Vijay was one of the players retained by the Super Kings and while he has provided them with reasonable starts, he has not been able to get the flow – the big, booming sixes over the mid-wicket have been conspicuous by their absence. Suresh Raina’s (9/2 at Coral) return to form in the previous game will be heartening.

The Royals are a well-knit unit. Johan Botha’s (11/2 at bet365) superb all-round performance won them their game against Mumbai before Ross Taylor (5/1 at Stan James) slog-swept them to a win over the Pune Warriors. The two who have yet to show much batting form, Shane Watson (11/4 at BetFred) and Rahul Dravid (7/2 at Boylesports) could end up doing so in this game. Especially Watson, for whom it may only be a matter of time before he explodes at the top of the innings.

Prediction:
Chennai Super Kings will slightly ahead in terms of being favourites for this game, but the Royals have the ammunition to gun them down.
