Chennai Super Kings v Pune Warriors India IPL Game 29 at Chepauk Preview and Tips

The 29th game of the Indian Premier League will have the Chennai Super Kings play the Pune Warriors India at the M Chidamabaram in Chennai. Both sides are coming off a two-game losing streak into this game.

Chennai v Pune odds:
Both Chennai and Pune had had a good start to the tournament but the momentum has been lost in the last two games. Chennai (8/11 at Blue Square) have lost to Kochi and Mumbai in quick succession while the Pune Warriors (5/4 at Boylesports) went down to Delhi before being taken apart by the Mumbai Indians. Both sides go into the game with four points each but Chennai have played an extra game.

Ground and Pitch:
The track at the Chepauk has shown to be batting-friendly despite having not had too many runs coming on it during the World Cup 2011. The spinners may come into their own but being a night game, the sides will need to overcome the issues associated with the dew.

Player News:
Chennai Super Kings have kept away from making dramatic changes to their line-up right through the four editions of the Indian Premier League, backing players to the hilt. However, it will be interesting to see how the defending champions respond to the current mini-crisis – three losses in the last four games.

Suresh Raina (4/1 at Blue Square), for one, needs to find some form. His lack of runs in a way that he has been used to, has made it difficult for the middle-order. Murali Vijay (10/3 at Paddy Power) is another who has had a couple of knocks but one gets the sense that a big one is due from his bat. Vijay has scored a century before in IPL and the side will want much more from his bat. It may also be worth their while to send Albie Morkel (12/1 at Boylesports) up the order, especially given that he has been selected as an all-rounder but hasn’t had enough time at the crease.

It isn’t yet known whether Graeme Smith (7/2 at Paddy Power) will be able to play in the game given his fitness issues. If he doesn’t, Tim Paine (9/2 at Blue Square) may continue to open the innings for the Warriors. However, there has been a case made for the inclusion of Callum Ferguson (13/2 at Paddy Power) if the Warriors can find an Indian batsman to open the innings for them.

Yuvraj Singh (9/2 at BetFred) hasn’t had a decent hit in the middle, except in the Delhi game. He will need to lead from the front with the bat if he wants to see his side doing well in this game.

Prediction:
At home, the Super Kings should go into the game as favourites but Pune will be no pushovers.
