Chennai Super Kings v Kochi Tuskers Kerala IPL Game 64 at Chepauk Preview and Tips

The Chennai Super Kings will play the Kochi Tuskers Kerala in the 64th game of the Indian Premier League this season. The game will be played at the M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Despite the hopelessness of the situation, the Tuskers still have an outside chance of going through to the playoffs while the Super Kings will need a win to not only cement their place in the last four but also have an opportunity to finish amongst the top two sides.

Chennai v Kochi odds:
Going by Chennai’s (4/9 at Blue Square) track record at home, it will be unwise to put one’s money against the Super Kings. They have played six games at the Chepauk and won all of them and will look to make it seven in a row against the Tuskers.

Kochi (2/1 at Boylesports) go into the game with a win over the Rajasthan Royals and it was one of the biggest victories in IPL cricket. They won with almost 13 overs to spare and that revived their flailing fortunes a little. With their frontline captain Mahela Jayawardene having returned to international duties, things will not be easy for the side.

Ground and Pitch:
The Super Kings had last played on this ground in the game against the Delhi Daredevils and they had gone on to score 176 in their 20 overs. Clearly, the pitch hasn’t lost its sheen and, as the tournament has progressed, batting has only become easier.

Player News:
The absence of Jayawardene will hurt and it would be interesting to see who he gets replaced by. Parthiv Patel (5/1 at Coral) will take up the gloves but where he will bat depends on who comes into the side for Jayawardene. If Michael Klinger (4/1 at Coral) makes a comeback, then he could end up opening the innings with Patel sent down at three or four but if the side decides to get in Muthiah Muralitharan in his place then the captain could go out at the top.

Jayawardene’s absence will put the pressure on Brendon McCullum (12/5 at Boylesports) to deliver the kind of quick starts that he is famous for. Only this time, he will also be expected to bat long enough.

At the half-way stage in the tournament, the Super Kings had only Michael Hussey (3/1 at Boylesports) and S Badrinath (11/2 at bet365) as their men in form. Two games away from the playoffs, Murali Vijay (7/2 at bet365) is back lofting the balls over mid-wicket, Suresh Raina’s aggression and solidity at three has emerged rather well while MS Dhoni’s (11/2 at BetFred) finishing has gone up a notch or three.

Chennai is clearly a team to beat.

Prediction:
Chennai, at home, will be a difficult proposition for a side which has been, at best, patchy throughout the tournament.
