In the 56th game of the Indian Premier League, the Chennai Super Kings will host the Delhi Daredevils. The game, which will be the only one for Thursday will be played at the M Chidamabaram stadium at Chennai.

Chennai v Delhi odds:
The Chennai Super Kings (2/5 at Boylesports) will go into this one as favourites and by a distance. Already, they had the momentum with them, winning seven of their 11 games. They are at the second position in the points table. To add to the inconsistent Delhi’s woes, they have been rendered without their captain Virender Sehwag due to a shoulder injury, which takes most of their batting strength away.

Without their best batsman and without any spinner of note, the Daredevils (11/5 at William Hill) go into the game as second-favourites. And there is daylight between the chances of a Chennai and a Delhi win.

Ground and Pitch:
The pitch at Chennai starts off as a good one for batting but usually slows down enough to bring the bowlers back into the game.

Player News:
James Hopes (11/2 at Coral) will lead the Daredevils in the absence of Sehwag. He has done a reason able job as an all-rounder, although, he will now be tested to the fullest as the captain. With Sehwag out, the onus of giving them a quick start will lie in the hands of the Australian left-hander Dave Warner (3/1 at Blue Square). However, given that he will now be fully responsible for the start at beginning of the innings, it will not get easier.

This could also signal the re-entry of Umukt Chand, who, for long has been out of the side. He could get a chance to open the innings with Warner.

While Delhi will be sweating over their opening combination, there is good news in the Super Kings camp. The only batsman who had not got going in their recent matches, Murali Vijay (10/3 at Paddy Power) slammed a fifty in the previous game to win the man of the match award. Michael Hussey (12/5 at Totesport) would be relieved to have Vijay get back to his form as well as that should allow him to get going at the top of the innings as well.

MS Dhoni (6/1 at Blue Square) is another batsman who hadn’t had a lot of time at the crease before he went ballistic against the Rajasthan Royals. His 19-ball 44 was the difference between 170 and the 196 that Chennai finally got. With this entire arsenal in their batting, the Super Kings will be a team to beat in this game.

Prediction:
Mumbai Indians had gone into the previous game against Punjab as heavy favourites but were crushed. Difficult to see lightening strike two days in a row; the Chennai Super Kings should be favourites by a distance.
